457 VISA FAIL PROVES YOU CAN’T TRUST TURNBULL WITH AUSTRALIAN JOBS

July 01, 2017

After two months of being besieged by business, industry and the education sector for failing to consult with them, the Turnbull Government continues to prove they can’t be trusted with Australian jobs following their skilled migration political stunt.

Peter Dutton’s botched changes sent waves of uncertainty through the business, innovation and education sectors with reports of a Department of Immigration and Border Protection official describing Mr Dutton’s skilled migration changes as a “dog’s breakfast.”

With underemployment at record highs, too many employers are still turning to temporary work visas to undercut local jobs, wages and conditions, and Australian workers are being left at the back of the queue for local jobs under the Liberals.

Only Labor’s proposed Australian Skills Authority – an independent, labour market testing body – will determine genuine skills needs and ensure that temporary visas are only made available when a genuine skills gap cannot be met with local workers.

Labor will make sure employers have to look for local workers first and we’ll make sure local workers have the skills to do the job.

Labor has also led the way by announcing a four year SMART visa with pathways to permanent residency for the very best educators, innovators and researchers of global standing in Science, Medicine, Academia, Research and Technology to ensure the best and brightest talent from around the world would have the opportunity to develop their ideas in Australia.

The Turnbull Government’s track record proves they can’t be trusted to crack down on rorts in the skilled migration program, protect local jobs or to invest in skills and training.
