TURNBULL GOVERNMENT MUST COMMIT TO FUNDING LOCAL VETERAN RECOVERY CENTRE

08 November 2017

Yesterday, the Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Amanda Rishworth joined the Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann to meet with local ex-service organisations from the Ipswich and the Somerset Region.

Raised in meetings with members of the ex-service community was the Veteran Recovery Centre, which was promised by the Turnbull Government at the last election.

A commitment was made to secure $1 million in funding, regardless of who was elected supposedly, to establish the centre.

There have been ongoing calls for the Turnbull Government to honour this funding commitment, but still no action from them.

The Ipswich and the Somerset Region has a large population of current and former ADF members, families and carers.

They are eager to see this project go ahead.

A Veteran Recovery Centre would provide a space for those men and women in the ex-service community to seek care and support when transitioning into civilian life.

The Turnbull Government needs to come clean to the community of Ipswich and the Somerset Region and commit the funding it has previously promised.
