UP TO $5000 UP FOR GRABS FOR VOLUNTEERS

09 November 2016

The 2016 round of Volunteer Grants has opened, with up to $5,000 available for community organisations to support their volunteers.

Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann has encouraged local not-for-profit organisations to apply for the grants worth between $1,000 and $5,000.

Mr Neumann said Volunteer Grants make a big impact because they offer direct financial support to encourage volunteerism by funding the reimbursement of volunteer training, background police checks or even some fuel costs.

“The grants offer some extra support for organisations and their volunteers to continue their great work in our local community,” Mr Neumann said.

“Local organisations can use the funding to buy much-needed small equipment items, such as computers or first-aid kits.

“They can also be used to contribute to volunteers’ fuel costs, including transport costs for people with disability who are unable to drive, and help fund volunteers’ training courses and background checks.

“Last year over one thousand local volunteers from 48 local organisations shared $164,212 in Ipswich and the Somerset Region.

“Those funds supported Scouts groups, sporting organisations, seniors and disability support services, school P & Cs, just to name a few.

“Volunteering is a great way to stay engaged, to contribute to the success of our region and a safe place to learn new skills.

“I encourage all community organisations with volunteers to apply.”
