BRIDGES OPEN ACROSS THE SOMERSET REGION

26 October 2016

Nine bridges worth $7.277 million were officially opened across the Somerset Region today.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann has hailed this achievement of a great example of all levels of Government working together.

“The Somerset Region’s roads, bridges and infrastructure have felt the weight of severe flooding over the years,” Mr Neumann said.

“The region’s farmers, residents and businesses are heavily reliant on an operable road network and it was essential that the Council had the full support of both State and Federal Governments.

“Together we ensured roads were repaired, bridges rebuilt and causeways restored. But that work must continue to ensure the Region’s many bridges remain operational no matter what the weather throws at them.”

Mr Neumann congratulated the Council on working towards replacing timber bridges with concrete bridges.

“It is vital to for long term resilience, security and economic sustainability to have bridges that can handle commercial loads and withstand severe weather.

“Importantly, these projects continue to boost employment in the region.”
