COMMEMORATING OUR MILITARY SERVICE

15 January 2021

The next round of funding is open for projects that commemorate local service personnel.

Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann said the Saluting Their Service grant program is designed to preserve our wartime heritage, highlight the service and sacrifice of service personnel and promote an appreciation of the role service personnel have played in building the nation.

“Ipswich, the Somerset Region and Karana Downs area boast a rich military history,” Mr Neumann said.

“Most local residents have a grandparent, parent or family member who has serviced in our defence forces and played a role in shaping the nation and our local community.

“It is important to fund projects that will ensure generations to come have the opportunity to leave and connect with their service and sacrifice.”

The program provides up to $10,000 for local and community-based projects, such as flagpoles, memorials, even upgrades to RSL facilities.

Up to $150,000 is available for significant national, state or regional projects.

Mr Neumann said the next round of funding closes on 11 February 2021.

“I want to urge local veterans’ groups, Councils, and community organisations to consider making applications.

“This region is home to a large cohort of serving personnel and veterans.

“It is important we recognise their service now and into the future.”
