The Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann, has criticised the Morrison Government’s ‘snap back’ approach to the JobKeeper program, which supports 12173 jobs and $18 million worth of economic activity in the electorate of Blair.
Mr Neumann said the Government needs to come up with a plan for the 12,173 residents in the Ipswich, Karana Downs region, and the Somerset Region who are relying on the program.
With the JobSeeker payment scheduled to return to its old base rate – ‘snap back’ – in a matter of months, millions of out-of-work Australians are anxious about what level of support will be available to them at the end of September.
There are over 1.6 million Australians on unemployment payments, but only 124,500 job vacancies, as at May.
“The Morrison Government believes they can guillotine JobSeeker when there are nowhere near enough jobs for the people who need them,” said Mr Neumann.
The Morrison Government’s scheduled snapback of JobSeeker will also rip almost $900 million per fortnight from the nation’s economy – the equivalent of 357,000 jobs in Australia.
“The Morrison Government’s ‘snap back’ of JobSeeker is not a plan for jobs and will place our nation’s economic recovery at risk, ” Mr Neumann said
