About Blair

The electorate of Blair covers an area of approximately 6472 sq km west of Brisbane. It encompasses most of the City of Ipswich and all of the Somerset Regional Council areas.

The division stretches from Springfield Central, Collingwood Park and Redbank Plains in the east to the boundary of the Ipswich City Council in the south and west, and the boundary of the Somerset Regional Council to the north.

The main towns include Ipswich, Springfield Central, Rosewood, Fernvale, Lowood, Esk, Toogoolawah and Kilcoy.

This diverse region boasts urban centres, a range of suburban hubs and rural and semi-rural areas. It is home to RAAF Base Amberley, the largest meat manufacturer in Australia (JBS at Dinmore) and the Wivenhoe and Somerset Dams.

The electorate was first proclaimed in 1997/1998 and is named after Harold Blair AO, a noted Australian tenor and Aboriginal activist.
