19 June 2023

Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann MP, has congratulated Ipswich City Council for obtaining $500,000 funding through Round two of the Community Sport Infrastructure Grants Program.

The half million dollar boost will go towards lighting and irrigation at the grass hockey fields at Briggs Road Sports Complex.

Mr Neumann spoke to interim administrator Greg Chemello to congratulate him and the Council on their successful application, and their shared support for the upgrade of community facilities.

“Ipswich is a proud sporting city which has successfully produced champions across all codes of sport.

“These vital upgrades will ensure that our hockey players will continue to have grassed fields that are well-maintained, as well as adequate lighting to continue to play into the evening.

“Encouraging participation in sport is vital to happy, healthy communities.

“I’m pleased that we are funding important facilities upgrades in Ipswich, the Somerset Region and the Karana Downs region, so that our community continues to be enriched through sporting opportunities and achievements” Mr Neumann said.

The Grants program was heavily oversubscribed, and the quality of the applications was excellent.
