DISABILITY AND SENIORS LINKS FOR IPSWICH AND SOMERSET RESIDENTS

01 December 2017

Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann MP, recognised the International Day of People with Disability on Friday by hosting over 40 stallholders and many Ipswich and Somerset Region residents for the annual Blair Disability Links Expo.

The Expo is in its 8th year and was officially celebrated with the launch of the Blair Disability Links and Seniors Links Directories, which together feature more than one hundred support organisations in the Ipswich and Somerset Regions.

Local disability advocates from Able Australia and NDIS joined Mr Neumann to cut a cake, and deliver speeches recognising the importance of the Disability Links Directory for local people living with a disability.

Since beginning the Directories Mr Neumann has provided over 80,000 copies to residents in the Ipswich and Somerset regions.

The event continues to grow in size, and is recognised as an important networking opportunity for service providers and organisations.

Mr Neumann has held the event since 2010 after recognising that people who live with a disability and their families and carers require a local network of support.

This year’s launch was the first since the National Disability Insurance Scheme began its rollout into the Ipswich and Somerset Regions in July 2017.

Mr Neumann recognised the work local service providers, carers and volunteers do to enhance the lives of people living with a disability.

The third annual Blair Seniors Links Directory was also launched on Friday, and features over 50 organisations which provide services to older residents and their carers.

Complimentary copies of the 2018 Blair Disability Links and Blair Seniors Links Directories are available from the Blair electorate office at the Brassall Shopping Centre.
