59,000 IN BLAIR TO BENEFIT FROM LABOR’S BIGGER, BETTER TAX CUT

21 June 2018

Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann MP, has this week announced that a Shorten Labor Government will deliver permanent tax relief to 78% of taxpayers in Ipswich, the Somerset Region and the Karana Downs region.

Labor will almost double the Government’s tax relief for middle income and working people in Blair, seeing everyone earning less than $125,000 up to $928 better off a year, over the next four years.

Mr Neumann said that the government’s changes, which passed the senate this week with the assistance of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, will have someone on $200,000 paying the same tax rate as someone on $40,000.

“It’s a disgrace that One Nation and the Government have joined together to give tax breaks to the big end of town. Labor will fight to ensure that low income and working Australians get a fair share – rather than the top tax bracket being the largest beneficiary in six years’ time,” said Mr Neumann.

“What matters to me is that local families are given a fair go and a bigger tax cut – Turnbull has already cut the taxes for millionaires, now he wants to give them a handout.”

There’s legislation in the Parliament to deliver tax relief to 10 million Australians on 1 July, but Turnbull held middle income and working Australians ransom while he joined One Nation to pass his tax cut for millionaires.

“Turnbull needs to stop standing in the way of tax relief - tax cuts for teachers and tradies this year should not be held hostage to tax cuts for bankers in six years,” said Mr Neumann.

“I’ll vote for tax relief starting 1 July this year – and if Labor is elected, we will almost double these tax cuts and make them permanent – while asking those in the top tax bracket to pay a little more to help reduce the debt.

“Turnbull and his out-of-touch Liberals are giving a smaller tax cut while cutting from schools and hospitals and giving $80 billion to big business and the banks,” Mr Neumann said.

“With Bill Shorten and Labor, middle class Australians will pay less tax. We will deliver proper funding to local schools and hospitals. And we won’t hand over $80 billion to the top end of town.”

Just 1% of taxpayers in Blair earn over $180,000 per year, as opposed to 13% of taxpayers in the Prime Minister’s electorate of Wentworth.

Labor has launched a website which will allow Australian workers to see just how much better off they’ll be under Labor’s plan for a bigger, better tax cut.
