Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann welcomed 193 local people who became citizens in local ceremonies as part of Australia Day celebrations.

Ipswich welcomed 182, while the Somerset Region welcomed 11 new citizens in ceremonies in Ipswich, Rosewood and Esk.

“I would like to personally welcome Ipswich and the Somerset Region’s newest citizens and wish them well as they make the pledge to officially join the Australian family,” he said.

“Becoming an Australian citizen is a significant step that shows commitment and loyalty to this great nation.

“It reminds us that Australia is home to many cultures, faiths and ethnicities.

“Today we reflect on what it is to be Australian and the privileges and responsibilities of Australian citizenship.

“I encourage residents in our community to join in their local celebrations to recognise all that is great about our local communities.”
