An Albanese Labor Government will bring new events and experiences into the heart of Ipswich, upgrading the North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct into a state-of-the-art facility able to cater to the growing community and ready to host NRL and A-League fixtures.

Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann said that in its current format, North Ipswich Reserve’s outdated facilities acts as a barrier to attracting high level sports and concert events to Ipswich.

“As the fastest growing local government area in Queensland, Ipswich deserves better,” Mr Neumann said.

“That’s why Labor will partner with the Ipswich Council, investing $20 million in this project and reinvigorating the heart of the Ipswich.

“This investment will enable Ipswich City Council to move ahead with detailed business planning, as well as upgrading facilities for male and female athletes and making the stadium broadcast compliant.

“Ipswich is Queensland’s sporting heartland and is an ideal location for both NRL and A-League teams; we just lack the large-scale facilities for major sport and entertainment experiences.

“After years of neglect by the Liberal-National Government, Ipswich is ready to see big investment in much-needed infrastructure”

Shadow Treasurer, Jim Chalmers said the project has been spoken about in Ipswich since the early 2000s – only an Albanese Labor Government will deliver the investment that this growing community deserves.

“Ipswich is renowned for producing world-class athletes and it deserves world-class sporting facilities to foster local sports,” Dr Chalmers said.

“Labor’s commitment will ensure that and is a tribute to the tireless advocacy of Shayne Neumann to ensure the community has the infrastructure it needs and deserves.

“Labor’s social infrastructure investments are about ensuring that local communities have the services, facilities and access that they deserve.

“As a growing city with a population expected to double in the next 20 years, Ipswich deserves better facilities than are currently on offer.”

When complete, North Ipswich Reserve will be transformed into a sport and entertainment precinct, anchored by a boutique 12,500-seat stadium.

The stadium will be designed for rugby league and soccer matches, while being broadcast-compliant to ensure NRL and A-League matches could be hosted at the venue.

This project is integral to meeting community demand for national sporting team expansion into the Ipswich region.
