Ipswich Knights Soccer Club will get a new viewing and entertaining deck in the new year thanks to a $20,000 Federal grant.
Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann MP, was at the Club on Monday to view the planned extension under the Blair Stronger Communities Programme.
“This will be a great boost to the Club’s capacity to host functions and encourage spectators,” Mr Neumann said.
Vice-President Danny Wilson said the Club was the largest soccer club in the region, fielding 40 teams and around 450 players.
“Men, women, boys and girls from all over the Ipswich and Somerset Region and as far as the Lockyer Valley, Greater Springfield and Moggill call Ipswich Knights home.”
Mr Neumann said the Club was nominated for the grant off the back of the enormous benefit it provided to the wider community.
“The facilities are used by a whole range of community organisations and for events, from weddings celebrations to birthday parties,”
“They’ve successfully rebuilt their Club following the devastating floods in 2011, and this will be another improvement on an already great space.”
The Stronger Communities Programme will deliver $150,000 to community groups in the Ipswich and Somerset Region for small capital projects that improve local community participation and contribute to a vibrant and viable community in Blair.
