A Federal Shorten Labor Government would invest $170 million into the Cunningham Highway to help fix the Willowbank interchange.
Long championed by the Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann, this project will upgrade a 4.75km section of the Cunningham Highway between Warwick Road at Yamanto and Ebenezer Creek, including the Amberley Interchange.
This upgrade will address the significant safety issues at the Amberley interchange, where serious accidents are all too frequent.
It will also be a major boost for the economic capacity of the Ipswich region, as the Cunningham Highway is a major economic artery.
The road takes 2,700 heavy vehicle movements a day, and plays a significant role in transporting people and freight between Brisbane and Sydney.
It will also support the ongoing success of the Willowbank Raceway, home to the acclaimed Winternationals drag racing event.
These vital upgrades to the Cunningham Highway have long been identified on Infrastructure Australia’s Infrastructure Priority List.
That’s why it’s disappointing the Turnbull LNP Government have had to be dragged kicking and screaming to fund this project.
