LABOR WILL DELIVER $29.4M EXTRA FUNDING FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN BLAIR

05 November 2018

Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann MP, has announced that local public schools will be $29.4 million better off under a Shorten Labor Government.

“Local high schools like Lowood State High School, Kilcoy State High School and Toogoolawah State High School will receive more than $2 million collectively in the three years from 2020.

“Parents and teachers know the importance of this extra funding for our local kids, as it means more one-on-one attention through extra teaching staff.

“This funding will give schools the resources they need to help students master the basics such as reading, writing, maths, and science, and offer a broader range of subjects including languages, coding, the arts, and vocational education.

This investment will transform schools across Blair, and give all children the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Every student in every public school in Blair will be better off under Labor’s plan, including:

Lowood State High School                                                            $1,160,000

Fernvale State School                                                                    $   540,000

Kilcoy State High School                                                               $   500,000

Lowood State School                                                                      $   390,000

Toogoolawah State High School                                                  $   370,000

Kilcoy State School                                                                         $   300,000

Toogoolawah State School                                                            $   220,000

Minden State School                                                                      $   200,000

Esk State School                                                                             $   180,000

Coominya State School                                                                  $   150,000

Mount Kilcoy State School                                                             $   140,000

Clarendon State School                                                                 $   100,000

“Parents and teachers will be able to find out how much extra funding their local public school will get and what a difference this will make for their kids,” Mr Neumann said.

“A new website – www.fairgoforschools.com.au – will give each school an estimate of the extra funding it can expect in the first three years of Labor’s plan.

“Labor will provide an extra $14 billion for public schools to deliver the biggest school investment in Australian history.

Labor believes that Australian school students should be the best in the world, and that every Australian student deserves to have the best start in life.

“In order for parents to have a real choice, our public schools need to be the best they can be but with Scott Morrison’s cuts, almost nine in ten public schools are missing out on a fair level of funding.

“Scott Morrison’s record as Treasurer is three budgets of cuts to schools, all to pay for his tax handouts to the big banks and top end of town.

“Labor has different priorities – we will crackdown on multinational tax avoidance and give our kids a better future by investing in schools,” Mr Neumann said.
