The Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann, announced today that a Shorten Labor Government will invest $3.5 million towards sports facilities at Ipswich State High School.

This election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better schools or bigger tax handouts for the top end of town and cuts to schools and hospitals under the LNP.

“Labor’s investment will allow Ipswich State High School to upgrade their existing facilities, cementing the school’s reputation as a sporting hub for south-east Queensland,” Mr Neumann said.

Labor understands that sport plays an important role in children’s development – it’s not just good for their health, but also for their self-esteem, teamwork and communication.     

“Ipswich State High School provides elite training in a range of sports, including rugby league, netball, soccer, volleyball and dance,” Mr Neumann said.

“The school’s football program provides development opportunities for girls and boys in rugby league and touch football and even has partnerships with the NRL.

“Labor’s $3.5 million investment in new facilities will benefit Ipswich’s existing programs and provide new opportunities in sports like futsal, volleyball and basketball,” Mr Neumann said.

This $3.5 million commitment is on top of the extra $2.5 million Ipswich State High School will receive for teaching and learning if a Shorten Labor Government is elected.

The Deputy Labor Leader, Tanya Plibersek, said schools across the electorate of Blair will be more than $29 million better off under Labor.

“Our extra investment will transform public schools across Blair and give all children the opportunity to reach their full potential, no matter where they live, or how much their parents earn,” Ms Plibersek said.
