MORE BUNGLING OF COVID PANDEMIC

04 January 2022

Scott Morrison has learnt nothing from his bungled vaccine rollout, with continued supply issues around vaccines and rapid antigen tests (RAT).

Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann said it is unfair for people across Ipswich, the Somerset Region and Karana Downs area who are trying to do the right thing.

“In the face of Omicron Scott Morrison has bungled the booster rollout – just as he did the vaccine rollout,” Mr Neumann said.

“It is inexplicable and inexcusable that in the third year of this pandemic, we still have a vaccine rollout that is plagued by supply issues.

“People are now getting their booster appointments cancelled because a lack of vaccine supply.

“This has caused a lot of anxiety for many locals, particularly vulnerable people or those with young children.

“To make matters worse far too many are being turned away from COVID-19 testing sites and told to get a rapid antigen test.

“That would be great except they are in short supply or unaffordable for many people who are already struggling to pay the bills.

“Once again, Scott Morrison was too slow to act in securing rapid antigen tests or enough vaccines for the booster program.”

Mr Neumann said Scott Morrison has a responsibility to ensure enough supply of these tests, and ensure they are affordable especially to Australians already struggling to pay the bills.

“It’s not a great choice: wait in line for many hours to get tested, or pay through the nose for a RAT, or simply go without.

“What makes this more galling, is that Scott Morrison has sprayed tens of billions of dollars on marginal seat rorts, with another $16 billion set aside for his marginal seat election war chest in the recent MYEFO.

“Yet he claims he cannot afford to make RATs accessible and affordable for people.

“It’s clear where the priorities are for the Morrison-Joyce Government.

“Unfortunately, local people are paying the price for this bad Government.”
