The Albanese Labor Government is providing $4,101 in funding for upgrades to the Esk Men’s Shed in Blair.

The new Federal funding will help cover the cost of electricity supply to the shed, a sign with logo and name, and a fridge.

The Men’s Shed attracts members from both Esk and surrounding communities, and offers wood and metalwork, along with social activities, partnerships, health and wellbeing.

This assistance is part of $675,000 in total funding being provided to 143 Men’s Sheds across the country through the National Men’s Sheds Programme (NSDP) to improve their sheds, upgrade tools and equipment, and support the health and wellbeing of their community.

The latest round of the NSDP included a new category where Men’s Sheds could apply for funding to host and/or participate in mental health and wellbeing events.

Since 2011, the Federal Government has provided more than $8.7 million to support Men’s Sheds under the programme.

The next funding round, also worth $675,000, is expected to open on 23 January 2023.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann congratulated the Esk Men’s Shed on its successful funding application.

“I was delighted to catch up with members of the Men’s Shed last year and see first-hand the old Esk fire station that has been converted into their new facility.

“Men’s sheds create a place of belonging for our local communities and are great for building social connections, while learning new skills and creating useful objects.

“Many communities in my electorate have been doing it tough with three major flood events in recent years, so spaces like these help support men’s mental health and wellbeing, and play a role in countering the isolation some men experience.

“I encourage all men’s sheds across Ipswich, the Somerset Region and Karana Downs area to apply for funding in the next round of NSDP, including under a new category to install or replace defibrillators and their components.

“Sheds that meet eligibility criteria can apply for a defibrillator at any time using the special application form available on the Australian Men’s Sheds Association website,” Mr Neumann said.
