On the 11th of November 2021 Remembrance Day, when we honour the more than 102,000 Australian servicemen and women who have died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Since the end of the First World War, Australia has joined with other countries around the world for a minute’s silence at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month to remember our fallen.
Federal Member for Blair and Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Shayne Neumann said Remembrance Day can be a difficult time for many veterans and for families who have lost loved ones.
“With the recent withdrawal from Afghanistan, this year is particularly challenging for those who served in Middle East and their families,” he said.
“This Remembrance Day has been an opportunity to recognise our defence personnel and veterans from recent conflicts like Afghanistan and Iraq, many of whom live in my electorate of Blair, and let them know that they will never be forgotten.
“We should also acknowledge the tireless work of our local ex-service organisations and veteran advocates here in Ipswich, the Somerset Region and Karan Downs region who support veterans and their families.”
“I encourage everyone to pause for a minute’s silence at 11am, whether at home, work or school, or at a service in your local community, to honour all those who have suffered and died defending our nation, values and freedoms.

“Please buy a poppy from a local Returned Services League (RSL) Sub Branches to help fund their vital work and wear it proudly in support of our local veteran community.
“I dropped by the Ipswich RSL Sub Branch stall at Riverlink Shopping Centre on Wednesday morning to buy a poppy badge to support the Sub Branch’s services for veterans,” Mr Neumann said.
A Remembrance Day National Ceremony will be held at the Australian War Memorial from 10.45am AEDT, and will be broadcast live on ABC television and radio, and online.
