The PCYC Ipswich playground is safer and more fun for local children, thanks to a $10,409 Blair Stronger Communities Program (SCP) grant.
Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann said the Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association (PCYC) Ipswich was a worthy beneficiary of the funding.
“The PCYC has provided a hub for local families for over 50 years,” Mr Neumann said.
“I was pleased to support this grant application as a contribution towards the playground upgrade, which included replacing the soft-fall matting for safety reasons.
The Griffith Road facility attracts up to 14,000 members a month to its various programs, not including spectators and family members.
“Safety of the playground is a priority as it is used for outside school hours care, as well as local families who visit Limestone Park.
“The playground upgrade benefits the entire community.”
The Blair SCP provides grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 to community organisations for small capital projects which improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy and viability of local communities. Grants must be matched by cash and/or in-kind funding from the organisation on at least a dollar-for-dollar basis.
“Ipswich PCYC performs wonderful work supporting young people and their families and boasts a band of volunteers who provided in-kind support for the project.
“Staff and volunteers at Ipswich PCYC work tirelessly to run programs, which assist in developing leadership skills in our young people through participation in recreational, sporting, cultural and welfare activities.
“I was pleased to lend my support to the PCYC’s application to ensure our young people have access to the best possible facilities in Ipswich.”
