SOMERSET GROUPS URGED TO ACCESS COMMUNITY FUNDING

12 January 2017

Community groups and not-for-profits in the Somerset have the opportunity to start the year with a funding boost under the Building Better Regions Fund.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann has encouraged organisations to consider applying for the funding designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build regional communities for the long term.

“The Building Better Regions Fund provides eligible not-for-profit groups financial support for investment ready projects that help grow both the community and the economy.”

“Applicants are able to access funding through either the community or infrastructure investment streams. Community Investment funding is designed to promote community resilience and can be used for everything between hosting new or expanded events, and leadership building and capability building. The Infrastructure stream is designed to fund new infrastructure projects or upgrade and expand existing facilities to grow the local economy and provide social benefits.”

“Projects under the infrastructure scheme require a minimum grant amount of $20 thousand and dollar for dollar cofunding, while the community investment stream has a minimum grant amount of $5 thousand and does not require cofunding for submissions under $20 thousand.”

Mr Neumann said that projects would be assessed using the criteria of value for money, economic and social benefit and capacity for project delivery with many potential uses for the funding throughout the region.

“The Somerset Region is home to an incredible number of community groups, charities and clubs that go above and beyond in their efforts to make this area great.”

“Whether it’s the Fernvale Lions, the Lowood Show Society, the Esk Girl Guides, or any of the other fantastic organisations out there, there are many worthy recipients who I know would make excellent use of this support.”
