It’s not too late to complete the Census, but Shayne Neumann warns that time is running out.
The online Census form closes on Friday, 23 September 2016. Completed paper forms should be submitted this week.
“The ABS reports that over 90 per cent of household forms have been completed for the 2016 Census, which leaves less than a week for the remaining forms to come in,” Mr Neumann said.
“The rate in the two previous Censuses was 97 percent and 98 per cent, respectively. If this Census has a coverage rate below 98 per cent, then it will have adverse impacts on our community – because the integrity of Census data is crucial to regional planning.
“It is vital that those who have not completed their forms do so immediately so we can ensure that Ipswich and the Somerset Region get their fair share in terms of resources.”
Mr Neumann thanked those households who have submitted their forms.
“This Census has been thwarted by one disaster after another so I appreciate those who have persevered and done the right thing.
“We should not let the Turnbull Government’s mismanagement of the Census distract from the necessity of getting the Census data right.
“I am aware that a number of households that have submitted forms are being targeted by the ABS for not completing their forms.
“I have informed the ABS and every household in that situation has been updated on the ABS records.”
