A grant for $6,109 will allow the Toogoolawah Show Society to save at least $2,000 a year in power costs thanks to the Blair Powering Communities Program.

Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann congratulated Show Society President, Vern Doyle on the successful application that will replace the existing halogen flood lights with 17 new solar powered LED lights.

“The new lights through the Showground will make the grounds safer for caravan park patrons along with Brisbane Valley Rail Trail users,” Mr Neumann said.

“Importantly, these will lower the Show Society’s overheads, in terms of ongoing power costs and replacement of lights.”

The Blair Powering Communities Program provided $67,700 to seven community groups across the electorate.

The Toogoolawah Showgrounds is located on 20 hectares, which at night can be very dark and feel unsafe.

They have installed eight solar powered flood lights already and will use the grant to complete the lighting project.

“If patrons feel safe, they are more likely to visit the grounds,” Mr Neumann said.

“More visitors mean more economic stimulus to the township.

“The group will save money on power bills, which means they will be able to invest more in the grounds.

“It’s a boon for Toogoolawah.”

The Blair Powering Communities grants provided up to $12,000 for groups to reduce power use, invest in energy efficiency practices and lower energy bills.

“Better power usage means a smaller carbon footprint.

“Congratulations to the Toogoolawah Show Society for making a difference in their community.”
